Jaipur: As part of a week-long celebration for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Battle on Wheels, authored by Khalid Akhtar, was officially launched at Pink Cafe here Sunday. The book focuses on the struggles, challenges, and achievements of individuals with disabilities.
The event featured several distinguished guests. The chief guest was Umashakar Sharma, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. Retired IAS officer A.R. Khan presided over the gathering, while special guests included Kavita Srivastava, National President of PUCL, Engineer Harshadhipati, and renowned litterateur Rizwan Aijazi.
Author Khalid Akhtar warmly welcomed the guests and introduced his book. Kavita Srivastava, who penned the book’s Foreword, praised it for narrating the powerful stories of struggle and success experienced by people with disabilities. Engineer Harshadhipati also shared his personal journey, inspiring attendees with his story of resilience. Rizwan Aijazi announced the forthcoming Hindi edition of Battle on Wheels, to be published by Hillview Publications.
Chief guest Umashakar Sharma spoke about his journey, sharing how he overcame the challenges of becoming disabled in an accident to assume the role of State Commissioner. He encouraged anyone facing difficulties to reach out to the Rajasthan Commission for Persons with Disabilities, assuring swift action on complaints.
Presiding officer A.R. Khan emphasized the need for a societal shift in attitudes toward people with disabilities, urging attendees to avoid derogatory language and promote respect and understanding.
The event was skilfully hosted by Dr. Raheem Khan. Prominent attendees included Dr. Vinita, Akash Arora, Chetan Sharma, Piyush Bardiya, Pradeep Agarwal, Basant Haryana, Bhanwar Meghvanshi, Naeem Rabbani, Kari Ishaq, Farhan Israeli, Dinesh Chaudhary, Sharad Tripathi, Madan Paliwal, Ashok Bafna, and Shaista Mahjabin, among others.
The launch of Battle on Wheels brought together advocates and dignitaries, fostering dialogue about inclusivity and the importance of respecting people with disabilities. The book aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities while celebrating their resilience and triumphs.
