Udupi: Amidst the tranquil setting of coconut trees swaying in the cool Arabian Sea breeze, men and women from Mangalore, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts filled the venue for the “Eik Nayee Subah Ki Taraf” (Towards a New Dawn) seminar. Organised by the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), the event at Salihat Grounds was a remarkable blend of vision, determination, and hope. Community leaders addressed pressing challenges faced by Muslims in India, urging proactive steps toward a brighter future.
Faith and Conviction in the Face of Challenges
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) National President Syed Sadatullah Husaini, delivering the keynote address, inspired the audience to turn adversity into opportunity.
“Challenges are tests of our faith. They demand courage, patience, and collective action. History shows that communities rise stronger when they embrace trials with dignity,” he said.
Husaini emphasised the need for bold dreams and transformative thinking, urging the audience to move beyond survival-focused aspirations.
“Our dreams should reflect a vision of justice and welfare for all humanity. By adopting Islamic values and positive attitudes, we can ensure progress and prosperity,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of seizing opportunities amidst crises, stressing: “Every challenge is accompanied by an opportunity. It is up to us to identify these openings and work diligently to turn them into milestones for the community.”
Challenges Test Our Faith – Ameer-e-Halqa
Ameer-e-Halqa (State President) of JIH Karnataka Dr. Mohammed Sa’ad Belgami reminded the audience of the inherent strength of the Muslim community.
“Challenges test our faith, but they are also opportunities to showcase our resilience and moral strength. The path forward is through unity, education, and a commitment to justice,” he said.
He encouraged the community to face contemporary challenges with dignity and confidence, stating:
“Our faith teaches us to rise above difficulties, not with despair, but with hope and purpose. This is how we contribute to a better society for all.”
Addressing Root Problems – Malik Motasim Khan
JIH Vice President Malik Motasim Khan offered a sharp critique of systemic issues affecting the nation.
“India’s real problems are not its minorities but the systemic oppression, poverty, and inequality that plague millions,” he said.
He also emphasised the need for Muslims to focus on their role as contributors to national development rather than being preoccupied with defensive postures.
“We must rise above victimhood and take active steps to build bridges, address injustices, and contribute meaningfully to society,” he added.
Unity and Vigilance – Zeeshan Aquil Siddiqui
SIO Karnataka President Zeeshan Aquil Siddiqui stressed the responsibility of students in safeguarding peace and harmony.
“Karnataka’s legacy of communal harmony is under threat from divisive forces. Students must remain vigilant and work towards preserving this legacy,” he said.
He highlighted the need to combat misinformation and hate propagated through social media, urging critical thinking and constructive engagement.
Youth Must Lead – Ramees EK and Abdul Hafeez
Outgoing SIO National President Ramees EK and President-Elect Abdul Hafeez addressed the gathering with an inspiring vision for the youth.
“The youth are the architects of a just society. They must embrace education, activism, and unity to address the challenges of our time,” Ramees said.
Abdul Hafeez called for a renewed commitment to community building.
“The current generation has the tools and opportunities to shape a better future. We must channel our energies into creating a society rooted in justice, equity, and harmony,” he remarked.
An Inspiring Gathering
The event, which began with Quran recitation by Maulana Imranullah Khan Mansoori, included Nasheed performances by students and introductions from Salihat Group Vice President Idrees Hoode. The programme was seamlessly conducted by Sameer Pasha and Sameer Teerthalli, leaving participants inspired to embrace challenges with renewed vigour and contribute to the nation’s progress.
