New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav, speaking in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, accused the Uttar Pradesh government of failing to prevent the recent violence in Sambhal, alleging that the incident was a meticulously planned act to disrupt communal harmony in the region, reports the Times of India.
The clashes, which erupted last week, involved two groups and heightened tensions in an area long regarded as a symbol of cultural and religious coexistence. Yadav claimed that the violence was not spontaneous but orchestrated to incite communal unrest.
“This was no accident; it was a deliberate, organised act with clear evidence of the government’s failure to act swiftly,” said Yadav during the Zero Hour. He emphasised Sambhal’s history of brotherhood and expressed concern over the impact of the violence on the region’s communal harmony.
The SP leader also criticised the court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, warning that such actions could undermine India’s Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb – a term signifying the cultural synthesis of Hindu and Muslim traditions.
Yadav further accused the central government of disregarding constitutional values. “This government doesn’t respect the Constitution,” he asserted, calling for accountability in handling the state’s law and order situation.
The opposition leader’s remarks are expected to heighten political tensions in Uttar Pradesh, as his party continues to question the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government’s approach to maintaining communal harmony.
The recent violence in Sambhal has sparked widespread concern, with political and social leaders urging immediate measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Yadav’s statement adds to the growing calls for a thorough investigation and action against those responsible for the unrest.
