AMU Department of Education Hosts International Alumni Meet 2024

Aligarh: The Department of Education at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) successfully organised the much-anticipated “International Alumni Meet 2024” on Monday. Conducted in a hybrid format, the event provided a platform for promoting relations, celebrating accomplishments, and strengthening the bond between alumni and their alma mater. Distinguished alumni, faculty, and guests gathered to honour the department’s legacy and its contributions to education and society.

The programme commenced at noon with the arrival of alumni, creating an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie. The event was graced by eminent dignitaries, including Prof. Naima Khatoon, Chief Patron and Vice-Chancellor of AMU; Prof. Zakia Siddiqui, former Principal, Women’s College, AMU; Prof. Anwar Jahan Zuberi, former Vice-Chancellor, Calicut University; Prof. Shaheen Usmani, Brooklyn College, USA; Prof. Mohammad Miyan, former Vice-Chancellor, MANUU, Hyderabad; Dr. Rahat Abrar, former Director, Urdu Academy AMU; and Prof. Nasrin, former Chairperson of the Department.

Prof. Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Department, welcomed the participants, setting the stage for the event. A key highlight was the inauguration of the state-of-the-art psychology lab by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon. Featuring advanced tools and resources, the lab is poised to elevate research and learning in the field of psychology. Prof. Khatoon lauded the initiative, emphasising its significance in fostering innovation and academic excellence.

The event also witnessed the ceremonial release of the Alumni Directory, a comprehensive compilation celebrating the achievements of alumni and fostering opportunities for collaboration. Prof. Zakia Siddiqui reflected on her fond memories of the department and praised AMU’s transformative role in promoting women’s education.

In her address, Prof. Nasrin expressed heartfelt gratitude to the teaching and non-teaching staff, whose dedication has played a pivotal role in the department’s success. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon congratulated the Department on inaugurating the Psychology Lab and commended its alignment with UGC and NCTE regulations, emphasising the need for enhancing employability and maintaining academic standards.

Another notable moment was Dr. Rizwan-Ur-Rahman’s address. As the grandson of Prof. Habib-Ur-Rahman, he highlighted his contributions to the renovation and modernisation of the department, preserving its heritage while advancing skill development initiatives.

Dr. Rahat Abrar shared the department’s developmental and encouraged faculty and students to follow the legacy of its pioneers. He also expressed optimism about the establishment of a women’s university at AMU.

Alumni from around the globe, including Prof. CPS Chauhan, Prof. Shaheen Usmani, Prof. Mohd. Miyan, Prof. Asma Siddiqui, and others, shared their reflections and gratitude online. Prof. Anwar Jahan Zuberi recounted her personal journey with the department as a student, faculty member, and former chairperson.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Nasrin.
