New Delhi: Maulana Mahmood Madani, president of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (M), has strongly denounced the controversial statements made by Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of Allahabad High Court. Maulana Madani said the remarks have tarnished the judiciary’s reputation and integrity, calling for an immediate investigation into Justice Yadav’s conduct. He urged the Chief Justice of India and Parliament to take decisive action to safeguard the judiciary’s credibility.
In his statement, Maulana Madani criticised Justice Yadav for failing to uphold the principles of constitutional protection, stating that his comments were “antithetical to constitutional values and judicial impartiality.”
The controversy stems from Justice Yadav’s remarks at a VHP event, where he suggested that governance should align with the majority’s wishes. Justice Yadav also criticised Muslim personal laws, made derogatory references to some members of the Muslim community by calling them “Kathmulla,” and linked cultural practices like animal slaughter to an alleged lack of empathy in children.
Maulana Madani condemned these comments as inflammatory and detrimental to communal harmony. He warned that such rhetoric could erode public confidence in the judiciary’s impartiality. “The judiciary’s duty is to uphold the Constitution and protect the rights of all citizens, irrespective of religion or background,” he emphasised.
Highlighting the judiciary’s vital role in ensuring justice and maintaining social cohesion, Maulana Madani lauded the contributions of honest and impartial judges who uphold the institution’s integrity. In contrast, he argued that Justice Yadav’s actions have undermined public trust and called for accountability.
“The sanctity of the judiciary must be preserved, and any behaviour that compromises its credibility must be addressed with urgency,” he asserted.
Maulana Madani also commended former judges and legal professionals who consistently champion truth and justice. He stressed the importance of uniting these voices to combat the rise of communalism in India. According to him, collective efforts are crucial to safeguarding the nation’s democratic values and fostering social harmony.
