Damaging a Copy of Indian Constitution a Provocative Act: JIH M’rashtra President Ilyas Khan Falahi

Mumbai: Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra has strongly condemned the riots in Parbhani. In a statement, he said, “We condemn the violence in Parbhani. Damaging a copy of the Indian Constitution is a provocative act, and strict action must be taken against the culprits.”

Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi averred, “The intentions behind damaging the copy of the Indian Constitution placed near Dr. Ambedkar’s statue in Parbhani are clear. Through this disgraceful act, the perpetrators are attempting to convey that the Constitution holds no value for them and that they can do whatever they wish without fear of legal repercussions.”

He further pointed out that such incidents occur frequently because individuals with such a mindset do not fear the law. This is largely due to the administrative laxity in taking prompt action against such groups. Consequently, situations often spiral out of control, leading to violence. He emphasised that the police and investigative agencies must enhance their efficiency to restore public confidence.

Maulana Falahi appealed to the public to exercise patience and restraint, stating that maintaining peace and order must be a priority under all circumstances.

He said, “We believe that damaging the copy of the Indian Constitution is a shameful act, but violence is not a solution to any problem. It is crucial that the district administration controls the situation effectively, arrests the culprits promptly, and investigates the anti-social elements behind such anti-Constitutional acts aimed at inciting violence for their own gain.”

He also urged intellectuals, political leaders, and educators in the city to come forward collectively to counter such anti-Constitutional thinking and mindset.
