Gadag: In another demonstration of using ‘Gruhalakshmi’ scheme funds in an innovative manner, a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law duo from Maladhar Oni in Gajendragad, Gadag district, have successfully drilled a borewell on their land.

The Gruhalaxmi scheme launched by the Karnataka Government in 2018, provides Rs.2000 every month to women and was one among the poll promises of the Congress party.

Mahbubee Maladhar and her daughter-in-law, Roshan Begum Maladhar, saved Rs.44,000 from the Grihalakshmi funds. Combined with an additional Rs.16,000 contributed by Mahbubee’s son, they spent a total of Rs.60,000 to drill the borewell.

The women expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, emphasising the scheme’s significant benefit to their family and livelihoods.

Women are using the Gruhalakshmi money in a way that benefits them and their families. There are also examples of women in some villages coming together and building a chariot, flour mill, and library for the temple using the scheme’s money.
