In a major development following the fall of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime, Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani, leader of the Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), announced disbanding of armed rebel factions. The fighters, he stated, would now be integrated into a unified defence ministry to bring stability and law to the war-torn nation.
Speaking under his real name, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, Jolani emphasised the importance of unity in Syria, home to diverse ethnic and religious communities. Addressing members of the Druze community, he said, “Syria must remain united, with a social contract ensuring justice for all religions and groups.”
Jolani also called for an end to international sanctions, arguing that economic relief is essential for rebuilding Syria and enabling refugees to return. His statements came during discussions with British diplomats, where he stressed the importance of restoring relations with Western countries to aid Syria’s recovery.
HTS has insisted that the rights of all Syrians will be protected, after taking control of Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
