October 14, 2023: A Reuters journalist Issam Abdullah was killed on Friday and six others from AFP, Reuters and Al Jazeera were wounded while working in southern Lebanon.
“Issam Abdallah had been killed while providing a live video signal for broadcasters. The camera was pointed at a hillside when a loud explosion shook the camera, filling the air with smoke, and screams were heard,” Reuters said in a statement.
“We are deeply saddened to learn that our videographer, Issam Abdallah, has been killed. We are urgently seeking more information, working with authorities in the region, and supporting Issam’s family and colleagues,” Reuters said in a statement.
Issam was part of a Reuters crew in southern Lebanon who was providing a live video signal.
Issam Abdallah, was buried in his hometown on Saturday in the presence of a large funeral procession. Abdallah’s body was transported on a stretcher from his family’s residence to the neighborhood cemetery while being covered in a Lebanese flag. The burial was attended by many journalists, Lebanese lawmakers and others.
