A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Allahabad High Court by the Uttar Pradesh branch of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), demanding the removal of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from office. The plea alleges that his public endorsement of Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav’s controversial remarks constitutes a severe breach of his constitutional duties and oath of office.
The petition claims that Justice Yadav, during an event organised by the legal cell of the VHP on December 8, made statements targeting the Muslim community. The matter has reportedly drawn the attention of the Supreme Court, which has sought a response from the High Court.
According to the PIL, Adityanath’s support for Justice Yadav’s comments undermines the secular fabric of the Indian republic and violates the principles of the Constitution. The plea asserts that his actions disregard the constitutional oath to uphold impartiality and allegiance to the law, necessitating his immediate removal from the post of Chief Minister.
