Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has condoled the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and said he was the only Prime Minister who made sincere efforts to uplift India’s marginalised communities, especially minorities and give them their due rights.
The Hyderabad MP said India lost a great son with the passing away of Manmohan Singh, who served as the Prime Minister for two terms.
Owaisi said Manmohan Singh was a partition refugee who with his hard work and honesty came up in life and went on to occupy the highest office of the Prime Minister.
Earlier, he took to ‘X’ to offer his condolences and termed Manmohan Singh’s story as remarkable.
“Truly saddened to hear of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s demise. A partition refugee who went on to become RBI Governor, Finance Minister and Prime Minister. His story is a remarkable one,” he said.
“I will always remember him as the only Prime Minister who made sincere efforts to uplift India’s marginalised, including minorities and backward classes. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” Owaisi added.

Meanwhile, he government of Telangana declared a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions in the state on Friday as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The state government has also announced seven-day mourning.
“The Government of Telangana with profound sorrow on account of the demise of Sri Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India on 26-12-2024 and as a mark of respect to the departed leader has decided to declare a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions on 27-12-2024 and to observe seven days state mourning. The national flag will be half mast during the state mourning,” says an official order.
