Churu: Tamanna Khan, a resident of Churu, received a warm welcome upon her return to the city after winning a bronze medal at National School Athletics Championship. The celebration began with a procession from the railway station to the felicitation venue, organised under the auspices of Dr. Zakir Hussain Educational Institution and Rajvanshi Khan Mahasabha. The procession was met with enthusiastic welcomes at several stops along the way.
The ceremony took place at Teliyan Badi in Churu. Tamanna Khan, along with her coach, Ishwar Singh Lamba, was honoured during the event. The guests were presented with garlands, turbans, shawls, and mementos.
Shamsher Bhalu Khan highlighted Tamanna’s achievement, noting that she represented Rajasthan and earned a bronze medal at National Walking Championship. Tamanna was given about ₹1,00,000. Also, Dr. Zakir Hussain Educational Institution gifted her sports shoes worth ₹30,000, other equipment, and ₹21,000 in cash to support her athletic endeavours.
Coach Lamba shared that Tamanna excelled in the championship held in Ranchi, Jharkhand, having already secured a silver medal at the state level. Under his guidance, Tamanna trained rigorously at the Churu district stadium. He also recalled the tragic death of Tamanna’s father, Babu Khan, due to a heart attack during her training last year. Through free coaching, he helped her achieve this milestone.
Chief Guest Dr. Mumtaz Qureshi commended Tamanna’s dedication and urged young people to balance academics and sports to contribute to society and the nation. He presented her with a check for ₹21,000 and pledged future support for her athletic journey.
Other notable speakers included Anil Shyoran, Coach Devlal, Raghuram Maju and several others also graced the occasion.
Kiran Prajapati and Pooja, who won silver medals in the competition, were also honoured during the event.
