New Delhi: The Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind(M) has strongly condemned a shocking incident in Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh, where three Muslim women were allegedly beaten with sticks, stripped, paraded naked, and had their clothes set on fire. The organisation has called on the Uttar Pradesh government to take swift and decisive action against the perpetrators.
Taking serious note of the incident, Jamiat president Maulana Mahmood Madani wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel, urging immediate intervention. The heinous assault reportedly occurred on January 2, in Rampur Lokria village under the jurisdiction of Nebua Naurangia Police Station.
According to reports from Jamiat’s Kushinagar unit and multiple media outlets, over two dozen individuals from the same village allegedly attacked the three women, subjecting them to severe physical and mental abuse. The victims recounted in a video statement that the mob attempted to burn them alive. They managed to escape to a neighbouring village, where locals provided them with clothing and shelter.
Maulana Madani’s letter criticised the local police for their inadequate response. Despite the serious allegations, the SHO reportedly dismissed the claims as unfounded without proper investigation. Village head Raju Singh corroborated that the women were subjected to extreme brutality. Shockingly, instead of pursuing the attackers, the Gulriha Police Station in Gorakhpur filed cases against eight members of the victims’ family, accusing them of involvement in the elopement of a Dalit woman.
Maulana Madani decried the incident as a grave violation of human rights, stating: “A woman’s dignity, irrespective of caste or religion, reflects the dignity of the entire nation. Those responsible for such heinous acts must face the full force of the law.”
In a separate letter to Governor Anandiben Patel, Maulana Madani appealed for her intervention, emphasising the victims’ profound suffering and the broader societal implications of the crime. He called for impartial and immediate investigation into the incident, arrest and prosecution of all accused without delay, rehabilitation, counselling, and legal aid for the victims, and transparency in the investigation process through public updates.
