Aligarh: The University Grants Commission directed the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centres across the country to conduct professional development courses for non-academic staff of the HEIs of India in the FY 2024-25. In this regard the erstwhile UGC HRDC of AMU nee the UGC MMTTC AMU conducted one Short-term course for the Security Staff of the Proctor’s Office on the theme ‘Financial Literacy’ and one Short-term Course on Sustainability Practices in Campus Management for the Sanitation Staff of the University Health Office.
Director UGC MMTTC AMU Dr Faiza Abbasi said these courses are the first of its kind and it is an indication of the commitment of the government of India to reform the higher education sector with the active involvement of all stakeholders. She thanked the AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon for her kind patronage to such steps of continued professional development towards academic excellence. Dr Faiza also added that executive development programmes contribute to quality in education as per all ranking and assessment parameters of national and international repute.
AMU Proctor Prof M Wasim Ali was the Course coordinator of the Short-term course for the Security Staff of the Proctor’s Office on the theme ‘Financial Literacy’ in which 50 security staff personnel participated. He said that interactive sessions were organised by eminent resource persons on topics like Money Management, Government Welfare Schemes and Online Banking and Cybersecurity, etc. He said that all the participants had found the course very useful and it was an enthralling opportunity for them to participate in the course.
The certificates were distributed by AMU Finance Officer Prof Mohd Mohsin Khan who delivered the Valedictory Address. He said that akin to air, water and food, etc. finances are one of the basic requirements for all career professionals. He hailed the organisers for taking out the time and channelizing earnest efforts for putting together the group on a platform like the MMTTC AMU by selecting an appropriate theme. The Closing Ceremony was also graced by Deputy Proctors Prof Ali Nawaz Zaidi and Prof Arman Rasool Faridi as guests of honour who congratulated all the participants on their success.
University Health Officer Dr Ali Jafar Abedi was the Course Coordinator of the one-week Short-term Course on Sustainability Practices in Campus Management for the Sanitation Staff of the University Health Office. He said that 51 sanitation members participated in the course and lectures were delivered by eminent resource persons on topics like green composting, campus biodiversity and water conservation etc. He said that campus sustainability is a very relevant topic for sanitation staff to be educated on as they are in direct interaction with water, soil and waste, etc.
The chief guest of the Valedictory session was AMU Alumnus Er. Suresh Chandra, who is a Chief Engineer in the Nagar Nigam, Aligarh. Addressing the participants, he said that global warming, climate change and biodiversity depletion are growing and we should all take steps to mitigate these challenges faced by entire humanity. He added that AMU is a high seat of learning reputed in the world for its leadership in higher education and nation building. Reminiscent of his own student days at the Room No. 80 of Jai Kishen Hostel, Sulaiman Hall, he said to the course participants that one is fortunate to partake of learning at the AMU; therefore, it is very apt that the AMU has taken a lead in training the sanitation staff with sustainable campus management practices. The certificate distribution ceremony was also graced by the District Malaria Officer Mr Rahul Kulshreshtha who applauded the organisers and the participants on the success of the programme.
Expressing their feedback the course participants showered profuse appreciation for the initiatives and said that it will be forever etched in their memories as a deeply enriching experience.
