The General Security of Syria’s transitional government yesterday released the first batch of citizens detained during a “law enforcement campaign aimed at restoring stability in the city of Homs”, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported. SANA quoted a source in the provincial General Security Administration as saying that “after concluding the preliminary investigation, and verifying the detainees’ backgrounds and their pledge not to carry out any hostilities against the new Syrian administration, we announce the release of a batch of detainees in Homs.”
The source added that more batches will be released after concluding the relevant procedures, stressing the General Security Department’s permanent work to maintain security and stability in all parts and areas of Homs Governorate.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the Military Operations Department in Syria, began a large-scale combing operation in the Homs city searching for “war criminals” during the rule of former President Bashar Al-Assad who refused to hand over their weapons.
