Jamaat Demands Muslim Representation in Telangana Cabinet

Hyderabad: Jamaat-e-Islami Telangana president MKM Zafar has demanded Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to provide Muslim representation in the State Cabinet.

He said lack of Muslim representation in the Cabinet has disappointed Muslims and the Chief Minister should take steps to remove this disappointment by inducting ensuring representation to Muslims.

MKM Zafar was addressing a press conference during his visit to Adilabad town.

He also demanded the Congress government in the state to fill the vacancies of Urdu teachers. There are several vacancies of Urdu teachers under four percent reservation and these should be filled through District Selection Committee (DSC) to improve the education system.

MKM Zafar also urged the government to take immediate steps to set up tribal university as announced. He said the delay in establishing the university is leading to unrest among students.

He also demanded the government to remove encroachments on Waqf lands and hand them over to Waqf Board.

It has been more than a year since Congress came to power in the state but the Cabinet remained without a Muslim face.

A 12-member Cabinet headed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy took oath on December 7, 2023.

The Congress party claimed to have ensured social justice in constituting the Cabinet but it has not given any representation to the Muslim community. A section of the party leaders explained that all ministers were picked up from among MLAs and since no Muslim was elected on Congress ticket, there was no representation to the community.

Senior leader and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir was likely to be inducted later by sending him to the Legislative Council. However, he was appointed as advisor to the government on minorities, backward classes, Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
