Mass Campaign against RSS-BJP Politics, Separate Dalit-Tribal Electoral System Demanded

Lucknow: Various political and social organisations, along with concerned citizens of Uttar Pradesh, have emphasised the need for a mass mobilisation against the politics of RSS-BJP. They also advocated for a separate electoral system for SCs and STs, arguing that Dalit and tribal elected representatives often fail to voice the concerns of their communities in legislatures due to party affiliations.

This discussion took place during a meeting organised by All India People’s Front (AIPF) at Gandhi Bhawan. Participants deliberated on the challenges facing the state’s populace and identified key areas requiring urgent attention, including employment, education, healthcare, and the safety of marginalised communities such as Dalits, tribals, and minorities.

Opposition parties, particularly SP, despite being a dominant force, have been ineffective in countering the RSS-BJP’s anti-democratic policies. The BSP continues to decline, and Congress shows no signs of resurgence. In this context, participants stressed the need for a large-scale campaign to address these pressing issues.

The meeting highlighted the efforts of Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyan, whose members have been supporting initiatives at various levels. Notably, the Abhiyan team recently assisted BPSC students’ movement in Patna.

Recognising the widespread social prejudice and isolation faced by marginalised groups, the Dalit Ekta Manch was established during the meeting. This platform aims to unite Dalits and other socially excluded groups, including those facing gender discrimination.

Participants also called for reforms to improve the election system in constituencies reserved for SCs and STs. While some proposed a completely separate electoral system, others suggested a compromise where a minimum proportion of SC/ST votes should be mandated for candidates to be elected under the joint electorate system. They criticised elected representatives from reserved seats for remaining silent and supporting their parties’ anti-people policies, even in cases of oppression and violence against Dalits and tribals.

Economic empowerment of marginalised communities was another major focus. Recommendations included providing interest-free loans to SCs, STs, extremely backward groups, and minorities for business ventures, with government guarantees for product procurement. Special financial grants were proposed for Dalit entrepreneurs in the leather industry.

A large team was formed to facilitate public engagement and dialogue with diverse social, economic, and political groups.

The meeting was chaired by AIPF President S.R. Darapuri. Key speakers included AIPF founder member Akhilendra Pratap Singh, child specialist Dr. Nandkishore, AIPF State President Dr. B.R. Gautam, SC-ST Railway Federation President Narendra Nath, Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyan Coordinator Rajesh Sachan, and leaders from various organisations, including Lucknow Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, Samta Sainik Dal, and National Coolie Front. Tribal leaders, Dalit intellectuals, and activists also shared their views.
