Convention on Ideal Muslimah Held in Kolkata

Kolkata: The All India Muslim Women Association (AIMWA) West Bengal Chapter organized a Women’s Convention on Ideal Muslimah at Milli Al Ameen College Auditorium.

Presided by Dr. Asma Zehra, AIMWA President, the event was convened by Dr. Nilam Gazala, with Ms. Hawwa Mateen as Joint Convener. State-level AIMWA activities were presented, and Ms. Hawwa reported on Tarbiyati programs for young girls.

Ms. Huda Rawal (AIMWA Mumbai Secretary) spoke on teachers’ role in women’s empowerment, while Ms. Waheeda Syed, senior educationist, discussed contemporary challenges for Muslim women. Young girls performed a skit on the impact of modern civilization on youth.

Dr. Asma Zehra emphasized the Quran’s guidance on education and unity among Muslim women. She highlighted issues like illiteracy, poverty, and marginalization, stressing the need for hard work and coordination. She also warned against threats like the UCC in Uttarakhand and the Waqf Amendment Bill, urging awareness to protect constitutional rights.

Dr. Nilam Gazala thanked women for their support, noting AIMWA’s expanding activities in Kolkata and beyond. Over 35 women and 40 girls form the core team, engaged in awareness and upliftment programs. She called for urgent action against the Waqf Bill, which threatens mosques, madrasas, graveyards, Eidgahs, and charities by placing Waqf Boards under government control.

Hundreds of women attended the convention.
