Police Brutality Against Mosque Imam in Madhubani, Call for Action Against Responsible Officers

Madhubani: The case of alleged police brutality against Imam and teacher, Maulana Mohammad Firouz, from Katia village under the Beni Pati police station is gaining attention. After Maulana Firouz’s statement went viral on social media, political leaders and organizations have condemned the actions and called for immediate action against the responsible police officers, reported the Clarion India.
A delegation from the Shariah Court also visited the village and met with Maulana Firouz. During the conversation, Maulana Firouz was seen emotionally describing the police assault, which moved the delegation to take further steps. The delegation reported that they had persuaded the Maulana’s relatives to file a case against the station house officer (SHO) and DSP of Beni Pati police station.
In their statement, the Shariah Court delegation confirmed that a case would be filed against the police officials. Meanwhile, former Deputy Chief Minister and Opposition Leader Tejaswi Yadav is expected to visit Katia village on Monday to meet with the affected Maulana Firouz. This visit has been confirmed by Rajesh Yadav, former district board member and RJD leader.
The incident occurred three days ago when police were conducting a vehicle check near Mohammadpur Bridge. During the check, Maulana Firouz, who was returning from his in-laws’ house on his motorcycle, was asked to stop. It is reported that he moved a few steps ahead before stopping, which angered the police officers, leading them to brutally beat him. The police then took him to the station, where Maulana Firouz alleges that he was locked up, beaten, and mistreated. After being released on a PR bond, he sought medical treatment at the President Hospital in Madhubani.
