Congress Forms Panel to Monitor Election Commission’s Conduct in Maharashtra

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has constituted an empowered action group to oversee the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) conduct in Maharashtra, scrutinize alleged manipulation of voter lists, and Analyse recent election data. The nine-member committee includes senior leaders Digvijaya Singh, Ajay Maken, and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, reported the Economic Times.
The move comes as Congress intensifies its criticism of the ECI, alleging electronic voting machine (EVM) tampering and other irregularities in recent elections in Haryana, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. The party has repeatedly questioned the neutrality of the electoral body under the current government.
Digvijaya Singh, a vocal critic of EVM usage, has been at the forefront of the campaign against alleged electoral manipulations. AICC treasurer Ajay Maken and legal expert Abhishek Manu Singhvi will also play key roles in the committee’s functioning.
The formation of this panel signals Congress’s aggressive stance ahead of upcoming elections, as the party seeks to ensure free and fair polls while challenging what it sees as irregularities in the electoral process.
