MVA Demands Clarity on Maharashtra Election Irregularities

— Abdul Bari Masoud

New Delhi: Ahead of the Delhi vote count, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of electoral malpractice in Maharashtra. They urged the ECI to clarify the sudden addition of 39 lakh voters between state assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

At a press conference, Rahul Gandhi questioned how Maharashtra gained more voters in five months than in the previous five years. “Who are these people? Where did they come from?” he asked. He noted that Maharashtra’s voter count exceeds its adult population, raising suspicions of irregularities.

Gandhi alleged that the ECI removed and shifted voter names, mainly from Dalit, tribal, and minority communities. He accused the Commission of silence despite repeated requests. “If nothing is wrong, why not release the voter lists?” he asked, hinting at legal action if clarity is not provided.

Supriya Sule claimed voter confusion led to her party’s loss on 11 seats. Sanjay Raut warned that 39 lakh fake votes may now be shifted to Bihar, calling it the BJP’s new election strategy.

The Opposition is demanding transparency from the ECI, stating that electoral manipulation threatens Indian democracy.
