New Delhi: Despite an overall defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demonstrated significant strength in Muslim-majority constituencies, securing victory in 8 out of 11 such seats. Notably, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal did not address public meetings in these areas or visit prominent Muslim-dominated localities like Jama Masjid and Okhla during his campaign. Yet, the party’s Muslim outreach remained strong, leading to impressive wins.
Among AAP’s victorious candidates, four prominent Muslim leaders—Amanatullah Khan, Aal Mohammad Iqbal, Imran Hussain, and Chaudhri Zubair—secured their seats with comfortable margins. Meanwhile, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, which contested with high expectations, failed to secure a single seat.
Muslims comprise approximately 13% of Delhi’s electorate, significantly influencing the results in at least 11 assembly constituencies. The key Muslim-majority seats in this election were Okhla, Mustafabad, Ballimaran, Seelampur, Matia Mahal, Chandni Chowk, Seemapuri, Babarpur, Karawal Nagar, Jangpura, and Sadar Bazar. These constituencies saw high voter turnout, reflecting strong electoral engagement.

BJP’s Success in Three Muslim-Majority Seats
While AAP dominated most Muslim-dominated constituencies, BJP secured victories in Mustafabad, Jangpura, and Karawal Nagar.
BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht triumphed in Mustafabad, defeating AAP’s Adil Khan by 17,578 votes. Bisht secured 85,215 votes, while AIMIM’s Tahir Hussain trailed in third place with 33,474 votes.
BJP’s Trivendra Singh secured a narrow victory in Jangpura, defeating AAP’s Manish Sisodia by just 675 votes. Congress’ Farhad Suri finished third.
BJP’s Kapil Mishra retained Karawal Nagar with a strong margin of 23,355 votes, securing 107,367 votes against AAP’s Manoj Kumar.
Despite its overall loss in the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP’s strong performance in Muslim-majority seats signals continued support from the community. Meanwhile, AIMIM’s failure to secure any wins indicates a lack of traction among Delhi’s Muslim voters.
