Hyderabad: A piece of meat found in a temple in Tabbachabutra area on February 12 triggered tension and led to protest by some people but by the end of the day the police found that it was dropped by a cat.
The CCTV footage showed a cat carrying a piece of meat in its mouth and entering the premises of Sankata Vimochana Hanuman Temple. The police investigation put an end to rumours and misinformation doing rounds about the incident, which came to light in the morning. Some people had termed it a deliberate act of desecration.
- Chandra Mohan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West Zone, said the footage from a CCTV footage conclusively proved that the cat was responsible for placing the meat behind the Shiva Lingam.
He appealed to citizens from spreading rumours or misinformation regarding the incident.
Tappachabutra Police received information on Wednesday morning that a piece of meat, weighing around 250 grams, was found in the temple.
Senior officials including ACP and DCP visited the temple to assess the situation. Four teams were formed to conduct the investigation. The teams analysed the CCTV footage from the temple surroundings.
The investigating officials found from the footage of a CCTV camera that a cat carried the piece of meat and dropped it in the temple.
There was tension when the piece of meat was found in the temple. Some people staged protest demanding action against those involved. Activists from the BJP, BJYM and VHP had joined the protest.
BJP MLA T. Raja Singh also called for the culprits to be brought to justice. “Under Congress rule, once again, anti-social elements have attempted to disrupt peace in the Tappachabutra area in the old city of Hyderabad by targeting the Hanuman Mandir,” he said.
