Madhya Pradesh: Shafiq Ansari Acquitted of False Rape Charges, Plans Legal Action Over House Demolition

Court Rules Allegations Were Fabricated; Ansari to Seek Compensation for Property Loss

New Delhi : A Madhya Pradesh court has acquitted former Rajgarh district councilor Shafiq Ansari of rape charges, declaring the allegations baseless and part of a conspiracy. The case, filed four years ago, led to the demolition of his house by authorities shortly after the complaint was registered. Now, Ansari plans to pursue legal action to seek compensation for his losses.

Reports indicate that Ansari, a councilor in Sarangpur Nagar Palika, Rajgarh, had previously raised concerns about illegal drug activities at a woman’s residence. Following his complaint, the administration demolished the woman’s house, citing encroachment. Soon after, the same woman accused Ansari of rape.

According to the allegations, Ansari invited the woman to his house on February 4, 2021, under the pretext of assisting with her son’s wedding and allegedly assaulted her. However, the FIR was lodged a month later, on March 4, 2021. Just ten days after the complaint, authorities demolished Ansari’s house on March 13, 2021, also labeling it an encroachment.

On February 14, 2025, the First Additional Sessions Judge of Rajgarh, Chitrendra Singh Solanki, ruled in Ansari’s favor, citing inconsistencies in the testimonies of the woman and her husband. The court noted an unexplained delay in filing the complaint, which raised doubts about its credibility. Despite the woman’s claims, she did not inform her family for 15 days after the alleged incident, and medical evidence failed to substantiate the rape allegations.

Following his acquittal, Ansari expressed his outrage, stating, “I was targeted for exposing illegal drug trade in the area. The false case was an act of revenge.” He further added, “My house, spanning 4,000 square feet, was demolished without prior notice or a chance for defense. Now that my innocence is proven, I will fight for justice and demand compensation for my losses.”

With the court’s verdict clearing his name, Ansari is now preparing to file a legal case against the authorities, determined to hold them accountable for what he calls an unjust and politically motivated demolition.
