Mumbai: The Maharashtra Congress has announced a Sadbhavana Yatra (Goodwill Rally) on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day, to counter the growing division and hatred in society. Harshwardhan Sapkal, the newly appointed Maharashtra Congress president, stated that the rally aims to restore social harmony, brotherhood, and revive Maharashtra Dharma.
The 51-km journey will begin from Massajog village in Beed district, the site of the recent gruesome murder of village head Santosh Deshmukh. Sapkal emphasized that the Congress will seek support from civil society members and alliance partners. “Beed and Parbhani districts are already known for their skewed sex ratio. We need to address both social and gender disparities,” he said at a press conference at Tilak Bhavan on Monday.
The rally will include prayers at Narayangad and Bhagwangad for peace and harmony and will conclude with a Sadbhavana gathering in Beed on March 9. Highlighting Maharashtra’s progressive legacy, Sapkal invoked the contributions of Shivaji Maharaj, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Phule, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, and revered saints.
He warned against divisive forces exploiting caste-based tensions and reiterated the need to strengthen unity. “Maharashtra’s rich traditions demand that we stand together to protect our social fabric,” he asserted.
