USTM Students’ Success in UGC-NET: A Strong Rebuttal to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Allegations

The recent UGC-NET results have delivered a powerful counter to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s persistent attempts to discredit the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) and its founder, Mahbubul Hoque. With over 50 students from USTM clearing the prestigious examination, the results highlight the institution’s academic excellence and expose the baseless nature of Sarma’s allegations.

For years, Sarma has sought to tarnish USTM’s reputation, accusing Hoque of obtaining a fake OBC certificate and alleging that the university is involved in exam fraud and a fake degree scam. However, the latest UGC-NET success of USTM students reaffirms the institution’s credibility and raises a pertinent question—will Sarma now question the integrity of the University Grants Commission (UGC) itself?

The results of the UGC-NET December 2024 examination saw over 50 USTM students achieving success, further cementing the university’s position as a premier academic institution in the Northeast. As part of its unique Pay Back Policy, USTM has pledged to refund the entire course fee of students who qualify for NET, recognizing their achievements and ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic aspirations.

Vice Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma reiterated the university’s commitment to student success, stating, “We focus on equipping our students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in national competitive exams. Through structured coaching programs, financial incentives, and rigorous academic training, we strive to ensure that every deserving student has access to higher education.”

Beyond academic coaching, USTM has implemented a holistic approach to student development, including soft skills training, interview workshops, and motivational seminars. Dr. Trishna Thakuria, Director of USTM’s University NET Forum, emphasized the institution’s dedicated efforts in preparing students for competitive exams. “Our NET Forum conducts regular coaching sessions every evening after 4:30 PM to ensure that students receive extensive preparation. Additionally, financial incentives under our Pay Back Policy encourage students to aim higher,” she explained.

USTM’s Centre for Competitive Examination also offers free coaching for NET, SLET, GATE, Banking, Staff Selection Commission (SSC), and various government exams. Since its inception in 2017, the NET Forum has played a crucial role in guiding students toward academic and professional success.

The latest UGC-NET results stand as a resounding rejection of politically motivated allegations against USTM and its leadership. By consistently setting new benchmarks in education, USTM continues to prove that dedication, merit, and excellence prevail over baseless accusations and political adversities.
