Ranchi : A violent communal clash broke out on Wednesday in Domron village of Ichak division, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, following an attempt to install a religious flag at the entrance of a government school. The confrontation escalated into stone-pelting between two groups, injuring at least 20 people. In the ensuing violence, three motorcycles were set ablaze, further fueling tensions in the region.
According to reports, the conflict began when a group attempted to hoist a religious flag on the school gate. This incident is linked to a long-standing controversy, as nearly two years ago, a minaret-like entrance structure with religious symbols was built at the school, sparking objections from some local residents. Despite multiple complaints to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, no action was taken to resolve the matter.
On Wednesday, the situation escalated when a group of Hindus arrived at the site, playing loud music and attempting to install the flag, leading to violent clashes. Amid the chaos, three motorcycles were set on fire, intensifying the unrest.
Law enforcement agencies intervened swiftly to disperse the crowd and restore order. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Block Development Officer (BDO) and police officials remain on-site, working to de-escalate tensions and ensure peace.
Authorities have assured that strict measures will be implemented to prevent further disturbances, while local leaders have urged both communities to maintain harmony. The incident underscores the growing tensions over religious symbols in public spaces and highlights the urgent need for proactive conflict resolution strategies to preserve peace and coexistence.
