New Delhi: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) strongly condemned the arrest of its National President, MK Faizy, by the Enforcement Directorate. Calling the allegations baseless, the party termed it a political move to weaken SDPI.
At a press conference at SDPI’s head office, Vice President Advocate Sharfuddin Ahmed denounced Faizy’s arrest. He demanded his immediate and unconditional release, warning of nationwide protests if he is not freed.
Faizy has led SDPI for six years, actively participating in key programs nationwide. Connecting him with any other organization is a deliberate attempt to malign him and the party.
Under Faizy, SDPI fights for constitutional rights, democracy, and secularism while opposing fascist policies. The party believes Faizy’s arrest follows the massive Waqf Protection Protests against the Waqf Amendment Bill, which saw huge participation across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Rajasthan.
SDPI accused the BJP-led government of targeting them as the party grows at the grassroots, gaining mass support. Advocate Ahmed said SDPI’s rise and anti-fascist stance have made it a major threat to the ruling establishment.
