Rajasthan Govt.’s Irresponsible Attitude towards Urdu is Regrettable: UDO

New Delhi: The Urdu Development Organisation (UDO)has expressed regret over the irresponsible attitude of the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan towards the Urdu language.

The rejection of a question raised by Mr. Rafiq Khan in the Rajasthan Assembly regarding Urdu, the merging of Urdu schools with general ones, the failure to establish Rajasthan Urdu Academy, and the recent controversy over the Ministry of Education’s use of the word “Alwida” (farewell) are highly irresponsible actions.

Similar moves against the Urdu language are being taken in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh as well.

Such actions can only be seen as attempts at the governmental level to eliminate the Urdu language. The National President of the organisation, Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan, has appealed to the Union Government to take suo motu cognizance of the matter, not only to protect India’s own language, Urdu, but also to take steps to promote it.
