Qatar Rejects Israeli Allegation Linking Aid to Hamas Oct. 7 Attack

Qatar on Wednesday rejected the allegation by Israeli security agency Shin Bet that the Hamas cross-border incursion on 7 October, 2023, was linked to Doha’s humanitarian aid in Gaza, reports the Middle East Monitor.

“These false accusations made by the Shin Bet security agency are yet another example of deflection driven by self-interest and self-preservation in Israeli politics,” said Qatar’s International Media Office. “The State of Qatar is a strong supporter of the Palestinian people, and has provided humanitarian support to families in Gaza for many years. Qatari aid has included basic supplies such as food and medicine, as well as electricity for homes.”

The media office pointed out that it is well-known within Israel and internationally that all aid sent from Qatar to Gaza was transferred with the full knowledge, support and supervision of the current and previous Israeli administrations and their security agencies, including Shin Bet.

“No aid has ever been delivered to Hamas’s political or military wings,” insisted the Qataris. “At this critical juncture, the Shin Bet and other Israeli security agencies should focus on saving the remaining hostages and finding a solution that ensures long-term regional security, rather than resorting to diversionary tactics.”

The Qatar media office suggested that the claims about aid from the Gulf State are “evidence” that the accusers are intent on prolonging the war. “Despite these unjustified attacks, Qatar will continue to mediate for peace based on its belief in diplomacy as the only way forward towards a better future for both Palestinians and Israelis,” concluded the official statement from Doha.
