Ahmedabad: Muslims in Vatva, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, have raised serious concerns after being allegedly attacked by extremists while returning from Taraweeh prayers on Monday, March 3rd. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers targeted individuals wearing skull caps, a common identifier of Muslim men, and even included children in their assault.
Reports indicate that in addition to pelting stones at the worshippers, some attackers—allegedly masked—also threw stones at houses and attempted to force Muslims to chant “Jai Shri Ram” at knifepoint.
This incident has intensified the growing anxiety within the local Muslim community, which claims that such attacks have become an annual occurrence during Ramadan. Despite repeated complaints, no meaningful action has been taken against the perpetrators.
Community members lodged a formal complaint at the local police station, identifying two attackers as Amit and Sunil. However, residents allege that the police were initially reluctant to register the case and only took action after the victims waited at the station for over an hour. Shockingly, despite naming the attackers, the police reportedly recorded them as “unknown individuals.”
The Muslim community in Vatva feels increasingly unsafe and frustrated. Syed Mehdi, a local resident, questioned, “If anything happens to us, who will take responsibility?” He expressed disappointment over the authorities’ failure to ensure justice, noting that perpetrators are often released within 24 hours without consequences.
In a video shared by the residents, Mehdi called for peace, urging that the sacred month of Ramadan should remain undisturbed. He emphasized the need for a safe environment where everyone, including women, can live without fear of harassment or violence.
The community continues to appeal for justice, urging authorities to take action to prevent further attacks. As tensions rise, they hope that such incidents will no longer be ignored.
