Shahrukh Pathan, an accused in the North Delhi communal riots case, has been granted interim bail for 15 days by Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai of the Karkardooma District Court. The order provides temporary relief from custody, allowing Pathan limited freedom under court-imposed conditions.
Pathan, who became widely known after a viral video allegedly showed him pointing a gun at a police officer during the February 2020 riots in North Delhi, has been in judicial custody. His legal representatives, Advocate Khalid Akhtar and Advocate Abdullah Akhtar, argued for the interim bail on personal grounds, while the prosecution opposed the plea, asserting that his release could impact the case proceedings.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted Pathan interim bail with strict conditions to prevent any influence on witnesses or disruption of the ongoing investigation. He has been directed to furnish a surety bond and provide his location details to the investigating authorities for the duration of the bail period.
Pathan is one of several accused in the 2020 North Delhi riots case, which resulted in numerous casualties and significant property damage. The case remains under intense legal scrutiny, with multiple arrests and trials ongoing.
Legal experts consider this interim bail a temporary relief rather than an indication of leniency in the case. Pathan is required to surrender upon the completion of the bail period, as per the court’s directives.
