New Delhi: A court has dismissed Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra’s plea challenging the summons issued to him in connection with a 2020 FIR over his alleged communal tweets. The court noted that Mishra used the word “Pakistan” to incite hatred, reinforcing the charges against him.
The case stems from Mishra’s controversial social media posts during the 2020 Delhi riots, which were alleged to have fueled communal tensions. The court observed that his tweets were not only provocative but also intended to create division among communities.
Mishra had sought relief from the summons, arguing that his statements were within the bounds of free speech. However, the court ruled that the use of “Pakistan” in a derogatory manner indicated an intent to incite communal discord, making his plea untenable.
Legal experts believe this ruling sets a precedent for holding public figures accountable for inflammatory remarks, especially in a politically sensitive environment. The case is expected to proceed with further hearings in the coming weeks.
