New Delhi: The Supreme Court refused to hear a plea challenging Andhra Pradesh and Telangana’s decision to allow Muslim employees to leave an hour early during Ramzan. The court directed the petitioner to approach the respective high courts, reported the India Today.
A bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar dismissed the petition against the state governments’ circulars. Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan urged the court to review the matter, but the bench remained firm.
The circulars grant early leave for Muslim employees from March 2 to March 30. The decision aims to facilitate religious observance during the holy month.
