The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has postponed its protest at Jantar Mantar from March 13 to March 17 due to a Holi holiday in Parliament. Dr. SQR Ilyas, AIMPLB spokesperson, said the decision followed suggestions from invited parliamentarians.
Ilyas called the Waqf Amendment Bill a “conspiracy to seize and destroy Waqf properties” and rejected it outright. Despite five crore emails and strong opposition from AIMPLB and major Muslim organizations, the government has made the bill even more stringent.
“In democratic countries, laws are discussed with stakeholders, but this government is acting unilaterally,” he said. AIMPLB, along with religious and civil groups, will protest on March 17, urging secular parties, NDA allies, and the nation to break the deadlock and convey their stance to MPs.
He criticized the 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for rejecting objections and 44 amendments proposed by opposition members, calling its modifications superficial.
AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi condemned NDA allies for supporting the BJP’s communal agenda despite Muslim votes. He warned that the BJP thrives on communal polarization and that allies must decide their stance.
