Fasting in Ramadan is the Best Training for Piety, Compassion, Patience, and Struggle – Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind

Steadfastness and Struggle Can Overcome Difficult Times: Ameer JIH
New Delhi: Speaking at an Iftar gathering at the headquarters of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Ameer JIH, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, stated that the blessed month of Ramadan is upon us, and everyone is engaged in making the most of its blessings. This month is known as the Month of the Quran, so efforts should be made to strengthen our bond with the Quran.
He emphasized that Ramadan is the Month of Piety, as fasting has been prescribed to attain piety. The Quran states, “Fasting has been prescribed upon you so that you may attain Taqwa.” This is why everyone must strive to develop this quality. Ramadan is also the Month of Compassion and the Month of Patience. While these aspects are generally emphasized, one crucial aspect is often overlooked—Steadfastness.
Ramadan trains believers to remain firm on Quranic principles and faith-based commitments. Once, a companion asked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for a piece of advice so comprehensive that he would not need to ask anyone else. The Prophet ﷺ replied in a single sentence: “Say, I believe in Allah, and then remain steadfast.” This shows that true Islam is about steadfastness in faith. Ramadan teaches this by helping us control hunger, thirst, and desires. This steadfastness should extend beyond Ramadan and become a lifelong trait.
Similarly, Ramadan is the Month of Struggle, requiring patience and perseverance. Several significant battles in Islamic history, including Badr, Uhud, and the Battle of the Trench, took place during Ramadan. Even the return from the Battle of Tabuk occurred in this month. These events highlight how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ combined worship with significant military expeditions and efforts.
Ameer JIH stressed that in the current challenging times for Indian Muslims, these qualities—steadfastness and struggle—are especially needed. No matter the difficulties, Muslims must firmly adhere to their principles, faith, and goals, remaining unwavering in their beliefs. Whatever sacrifices or efforts are required, they must always be ready. Only through steadfastness and struggle can Indian Muslims overcome hardships and emerge stronger from trials.
He urged Muslims to remember these qualities during Ramadan and incorporate them into their lives along with other virtues. True worship is not just about rituals but about its deeper spirit and purpose. He prayed for Allah to grant the qualities of piety, patience, compassion, steadfastness, and struggle to the believers.
The spiritually uplifting Iftar gathering was attended by around 800 guests, including prominent political, social, and community figures.
