Jaipur: BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya has triggered controversy by alleging that the volume of loudspeakers used for Azaan has been deliberately increased during Ramzan. The legislator from Hawa Mahal constituency called for police intervention, arguing that the high volume causes distress to students, migraine sufferers, and grieving families. He further claimed that some individuals have installed loudspeakers in their homes, which should be regulated.
Acharya insisted that authorities should monitor and ensure that sound levels remain within permissible limits. “The police have the necessary devices to measure volume, and they must take action wherever the levels exceed the prescribed norms,” he stated.
His remarks have drawn sharp criticism from Congress leader and former minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, who accused BJP leaders of deliberately stoking communal tensions. “Some BJP MLAs have lost their mental balance and are speaking nonsense. Instead of addressing governance issues, they make inflammatory remarks to divide society,” he said.
Khachariyawas further alleged that the BJP government has been attempting to incite unrest, particularly during Holi and Ramzan, by making provocative statements. He challenged the ruling party to enact laws in Parliament if they wish to regulate religious practices rather than resorting to divisive rhetoric.
The controversy has added to the ongoing political tensions in Rajasthan, with both parties intensifying their accusations ahead of the upcoming elections.
