Rudrapur: In a disturbing incident from Uttarakhand’s Rudrapur, a 14-year-old Muslim boy was allegedly assaulted by policemen while returning home after Eid shopping. The incident, which reportedly occurred at the Rampura police outpost, has sparked outrage.
The victim, identified as Aarish, has accused the policemen—who were allegedly intoxicated and in plain clothes—of detaining and assaulting him while he was fasting. Aarish claimed that the officers handcuffed him and subjected him to severe physical abuse.
His father, Atiq, lodged a formal complaint at Kotwali police station, alleging that his son was tortured without reason. “They stopped me, snatched my bike keys, and took me to the police outpost, where they thrashed me,” Aarish told the media. He further alleged that when the officers noticed his skullcap, they intensified the assault, striking him with a belt. “When I told them I was fasting, they beat me even more,” he added.
A photograph of Aarish shared online shows severe injuries on his back, reinforcing his allegations. The accused officers have been identified as Vijay and Mahesh.
The case has drawn attention from local leaders, including Congress representatives Mohan Kheda and Sanjay Anuja from the Traders’ Association, who visited the Kotwali police station to demand accountability.
Meanwhile, Rudrapur Circle Officer (CO) Prashant Kumar stated that an investigation would be initiated upon receiving a formal complaint regarding the alleged police brutality.
The incident has sparked concerns over police misconduct and religious discrimination, with calls for immediate action against the accused officers.
