Dr. Shakir Ahmad Naikoo’s Book on Kashmiri Children’s Literature Released at AMU

Aligarh: A new work on Kashmiri children’s literature, “Kɝ:shri Shur’ Adbîch Mɔla:nkwan (Kashmiri Children’s Literature: A Critical Evaluation),” authored by Dr. Shakir Ahmad Naikoo, Assistant Professor and In-Charge of the Kashmiri Section, Department of Modern Indian Languages, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), was formally released at an event organised by the Punjabi Section in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh Punjabi Akademi, Lucknow.

Written in Kashmiri language, the book offers a critical evaluation of Kashmiri children’s literature, encompassing both traditional and contemporary writings aimed at young readers. It highlights the role of children’s literature in shaping values, stimulating intellectual engagement, and helping children navigate life’s complexities. The book also delves into the historical evolution, objectives, principles, and unique characteristics of the genre while addressing its challenges and future prospects.

Prof. Asgar Wajahat, renowned writer and Professor of Hindi at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Praising Dr. Naikoo’s scholarly work, he described the book as a milestone in Kashmiri children’s literature that will contribute significantly to the field.

The event was presided over by Prof. T.N. Satheesan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Chairperson of the Department of Modern Indian Languages, AMU. Prof. Kranti Pal, In-Charge of the Punjabi Section, served as the Organising Secretary.
