Prayagraj — In a disturbing display of religious aggression, members of a Hindutva outfit scaled the Syed Salar Ghazi Dargah in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj during Ram Navami celebrations on Sunday. Videos that surfaced online show the group waving saffron flags and chanting “Jai Shri Ram” amid blaring music while standing atop the mosque structure.
The mob not only desecrated the dargah but also demanded the removal of the centuries-old tomb to construct a temple in its place. After the provocative act, the group proceeded with a bike rally through the area, further heightening tensions.
This incident mirrors a similar attack that occurred recently in Maharashtra’s Rahuri district on March 26, where a group stormed the Hazrat Ahmed Chishti Dargah, replaced the Islamic green flag with a saffron one, and celebrated the act by raising slogans.
Despite public outrage and viral footage of the incidents, no arrests have been made yet in either case. Authorities have deployed additional security personnel in the affected areas, but local residents remain fearful of further escalation.
These acts of desecration raise serious concerns over rising communal hostility and the impunity with which such actions are being carried out in the name of religion.
