Jamia Hamdard’s HIIS organised a Special Lecture on ‘India and Its Neighbourhood: Security Challenges’

New Delhi: The Hamdard Institute of International Studies (HIIS), Jamia Hamdard, organised a special lecture on “India and Its Neighbourhood: Security Challenges”. The event was graced by Shri Shantanu Mukharji, Retired IPS Officer and former National Security Advisor to Prime Minister of Mauritius, who served as the Chief Guest and keynote speaker.

The programme commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, setting a solemn and reflective tone for the proceedings. This was followed by a felicitation ceremony to honour the esteemed guest.

Prof. Syeedun Nisa, Director HIIS, delivered the welcome address and set the context for the session by emphasising the importance of strategic dialogue in the current geopolitical climate.

Shri Shantanu Mukharji, in his lecture, offered a comprehensive analysis of India’s relations with its neighbouring countries and the multifaceted security challenges facing the region. Drawing on his extensive experience in national security, he highlighted both traditional and emerging threats and stressed the need for robust policy responses and regional cooperation.

The Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, delivered the presidential remarks. He echoed the concerns raised during the lecture and emphasised the importance of academic platforms in generating informed debate on national and regional security.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Asif Nawaz, Assistant Professor, HIIS, who expressed gratitude to the guest speaker, the university leadership, faculty, and students for their participation and engagement.

The programme was ably coordinated by Mr. Shivam Bahuguna, Assistant Professor, HIIS.

The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and scholars, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to fostering dialogue on critical international and strategic issues.
