Aligarh: To mark National Safe Motherhood Day, the Department of Niswan-wa-Qabalat, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a Free Health Screening and Awareness Camp at ASRA (Aligarh Self-Reliance Alliance for Women), Shamshad Market. The initiative, exclusively for underprivileged women, highlighted an impactful celebration of the day.
Held in collaboration with ASRA, the camp offered free health check-ups, pathological tests, and medicines, focusing on maternal well-being and awareness regarding prenatal and postnatal care. The event aimed to provide quality healthcare access to women who often struggle to afford it, with special attention to both physical and emotional health during pregnancy and lactation.
The camp was inaugurated by Prof. Suboohi Mustafa, Chairperson, Department of Niswan-wa-Qabalat. She emphasised the importance of antenatal and postnatal care, balanced nutrition, and emotional support, stating that education and awareness are key to improving maternal and child health outcomes.
Prof. Faiza Abbasi, Director, UGC-MMTTC, lauded the initiative and called for more such community outreach programmes to raise awareness.
The proceedings were coordinated by Dr. Fahmeeda Zeenat, Department of Niswan-wa-Qabalat.
The initiative stood out as an example for service, compassion, and commitment to women’s health and empowerment.
