New Delhi: Jamia Hamdard, in collaboration with the Society for Neurochemistry, India (SNCI) – Delhi Local Chapter, successfully inaugurated a two-day National Symposium on “Neurochemistry and Emerging Therapeutics: Challenges and Opportunities in Neuroscience” on April 16. The event is being held at the Convention Centre, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, and will continue through April 17.
The symposium brings together leading researchers, clinicians, and academicians from across the country to address the growing global burden of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. It aims to explore innovative therapeutic approaches and foster interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of neuroscience. Approximately 180 delegates from various institutions are participating in the symposium, presenting research papers, posters, and delivering scientific lectures.
Key themes of the symposium include neurochemical pathways and their role in brain function, novel therapeutic strategies, biomarkers and diagnostics, translational research, and the ethical and societal dimensions of neurochemical studies.
The inaugural function commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the welcome address delivered by Prof. Suhel Parvez, Dean, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, and Organising Chairperson of the symposium.
Prof. S. Raisuddin, Dean (Academics), Jamia Hamdard, felicitated the dignitaries and underscored the university’s achievements in national and international rankings, along with the scholarly accomplishments of its faculty and researchers.
The event was graced by Prof. (Dr.) P. Prakash Babu, Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Pondicherry and General Secretary of SNCI, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasised the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence and Stem Cell research in the development of advanced therapeutics for neurological disorders.
Prof. M.K. Thakur, Guest of Honour and Honorary President of SNCI, lauded Jamia Hamdard’s continued efforts in enhancing the quality of academic and scientific discourse. He also highlighted SNCI’s role in advancing neuroscience research in India.
The session was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard. In his presidential address, he encouraged participants to integrate emerging tools such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning into their research frameworks.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Mohammad Akram, Organising Co-Chairperson of the symposium, followed by the National Anthem.
