Israeli forces have killed 22-year-old Palestinian artist Dina Khaled Zaurub in an airstrike targeting a tent sheltering her family west of Khan Younis, near the Sand Beach resort in southern Gaza, according to Quds News Network.
Zaurub, a rising talent known for her emotionally powerful portraits of Palestinians martyred during the Israeli onslaught, had dedicated her art to honoring lives lost amid what many are calling an ongoing genocide in Gaza. Her death has sparked mourning across Palestinian cultural and activist communities.
The Palestinian Ministry of Culture issued a heartfelt statement, describing Zaurub as a gifted young woman whose creative journey was tragically cut short. The ministry extended its condolences to her family and the wider cultural fraternity, denouncing her killing as yet another chapter in the genocidal war on Gaza.
Throughout her brief but impactful life, Zaurub earned multiple accolades for her artistic contributions. In 2015, she won the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights Award for her drawing on children’s rights in conflict zones. She was later recognized by both the Ministry of Education and UNRWA for her artistic dedication. Specializing in portraiture, she used her talent to immortalize the stories and faces of Gaza’s martyrs.
