Telangana March Announced to Oppose Waqf Amendment Act 2025

Hyderabad: In a strong show of dissent against the recently introduced Waqf Amendment Act 2025, the Welfare Party of India (Telangana State) has announced a protest march and dharna at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, Hyderabad, on April 26, 2025, at 2 PM.
Organized under the banner of a Joint Action Committee comprising 35 organisations from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the march seeks to pressure the central government to revoke the controversial legislation that many believe undermines the autonomy and rights of the Waqf Board and the Muslim community at large.
The protest, being held under the slogan “We Reject Waqf Amendment Act 2025,” will feature the participation of key social and political figures, most notably Dr. SQR Ilyas, Spokesperson of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and National President of the Welfare Party of India.
Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) and other grassroots Muslim and civil rights groups are also expected to join the mass protest. Organisers assert that the new amendments will further pave the way for encroachments on Waqf lands and weaken institutional safeguards that are essential for the protection of community assets.
The protest aims to highlight the larger implications of the Waqf Amendment Act on minority rights, religious freedom, and social justice, calling upon civil society, activists, and concerned citizens to raise their voice in solidarity.
