New Delhi: In a tragic incident that shook northeast Delhi, a multi-storey residential building in Shakti Vihar, Mustafabad, collapsed on Saturday, claiming 11 lives and leaving several others injured. Rescue operations by the Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Delhi Fire Services (DFS) were launched immediately after the collapse and continued through the night.
The building collapse has sparked grief and outrage, especially as reports suggest that construction work was underway on the ground floor at the time of the incident. Locals and community members have raised concerns over the structural integrity of the building and possible negligence by the owners or contractors.
In response to the tragedy, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Prof. Salim Engineer, Vice President of JIH, conveyed the organisation’s solidarity with the affected families and prayed for peace for the departed souls. “We pray that Almighty Allah grants peace to the departed and strength to the bereaved to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
JIH also wished a speedy recovery to the injured and commended the tireless efforts of the rescue teams. Prof. Salim Engineer stressed the urgent need for stricter enforcement of building safety regulations to avoid similar incidents in the future. He urged the authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the collapse, particularly focusing on the reported construction activity, and ensure accountability for any lapses.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing issue of unregulated construction in densely populated areas of the capital, prompting calls for immediate reforms in building safety oversight.
