Hyderabad : All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has pledged to continue peaceful protests against the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Act, asserting that the agitation will persist until the law is withdrawn. Speaking at a massive public gathering organized by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) at the AIMIM headquarters in Hyderabad on Saturday night, Owaisi accused the central government of targeting Muslim identity and constitutional rights, reported the Varta Bharati.
He likened the protest against the Waqf law to the farmers’ movement that led to the repeal of the contentious farm laws. “Just like our farmer brothers, we will also continue our peaceful struggle until this black law is repealed,” Owaisi declared. “Are you ready for a long democratic battle?” he asked the crowd, urging them to commit to the movement until victory is achieved.
The AIMIM leader criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for repeatedly undermining Muslim identity through laws such as the triple talaq legislation, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and anti-conversion laws in BJP-ruled states. “Now, with the Uniform Civil Code, he wants to snatch our Shariat,” Owaisi said.
He also questioned the exclusion of the Dawoodi Bohra community from the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, suggesting it was a divisive move aimed at weakening Muslim unity.
Responding to derogatory remarks made by a BJP leader against the Supreme Court, Owaisi said, “Even when judgments like Ayodhya go against us, we do not threaten institutions. We accept them because we believe in constitutional morality. But Sangh Parivar people challenge the very Constitution.”
He further accused the BJP of radicalizing its followers and issuing threats of a religious war. “Mr. Modi, who is getting radicalized? Your people are,” he said.
DMK MP M.M. Abdulla, representing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, expressed solidarity with minorities across India. “We stand with all minorities, not just those in Tamil Nadu,” he affirmed.
AIMPLB President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rehmani and other leaders also addressed the crowd. The AIMPLB announced a campaign titled ‘Save Waqf, Save Constitution’, set to launch across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Planned activities include blackout protests, round-table discussions, women’s public gatherings, human chain protests, sit-ins, and public meetings. A central sit-in protest is scheduled for June 1 in Hyderabad.
