New Delhi : Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia and the assurances given during high-level talks, uncertainty continues to loom over the fate of approximately 42,500 Indian Hajj pilgrims. With just weeks left for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, thousands are still unsure whether they will be able to embark on the sacred journey this year, reported the Madhyamam.
Reports suggest that delays in finalising the Hajj quota and other procedural formalities have caused anxiety among the selected pilgrims. Although the Saudi authorities had reportedly promised a swift resolution to the pending issues during Modi’s visit, official clarity is still awaited.
According to sources, the Hajj Committee of India and private tour operators are awaiting final confirmation on the total number of pilgrims allowed, flight schedules, accommodation arrangements, and visa issuance timelines. Many fear that if the formalities are not completed in the coming days, it could lead to cancellations or rescheduling of long-awaited pilgrimages.
Several affected pilgrims have expressed their distress, highlighting the emotional and financial investments already made in preparation for the journey. Religious and community leaders have urged the Indian government to take immediate diplomatic steps to ensure that all arrangements are swiftly concluded.
The uncertainty is particularly concerning as Hajj preparations typically involve months of planning, including health screenings, logistical coordination, and spiritual readiness. Any further delay could create chaos for both pilgrims and organisers.
India has one of the largest Muslim populations in the world, and the annual Hajj pilgrimage remains a significant spiritual milestone for many. The current uncertainty has sparked widespread appeals for government intervention to resolve the situation without further delay.
