Humanity Beyond Religion: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind members gesture to Muthumariamman devotees

– M Rafi Ahmed

Indeed, humanity is the true religion of mankind, said Datuk Pardip Kumar Kukreja, chairman of the Global Hindu Federation. Taking this in the right perspective, the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Tamilnadu executives at Karumbukkadai neighbourhood in Coimbatore city rolled out a red-carpet welcome to devotees of Muthumariamman temple located in the same area when men and women with fire pots passed through Masjidhul Huda.

Braving the scorching sun, the devotees waded through the main thoroughfare on their way to Muthumariamman Temple. And the event has been held for the past 31 years with religious fervour by temple festival committee members. The 32nd year of the temple Chithirai fest witnessed Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Tamilnadu president P S Umar Farook taking the lead in offering water bottles, juice items, biscuits, fruits, watermelon to the devotees and quenched their thirst.

Coordinator Abdul Hakkim, mosque executives Jaila, M K Abu, Siraj Bai, WPI Abbas, Shajahan and jamaat members were present at the heart-warming event which made headlines in both electronic and print media. Noteworthy to mention that JIH has been playing a pivotal role in conducting a series of communal harmony programmes, thereby promoting and popularising Universal Brotherhood and Togetherness among different faiths.

In fact, JIH has been instrumental in organising mosque visits by Hindu and Christian brethren to make them know about the five times namaz and other spiritual activities. To be frank, JIH opened the doors of the mosques for people from different faiths to witness the namaz performed by Muslims. In a step further, JIH used to distribute the Tamil translation of the Holy Quran to them.

Likewise, the JIH was part of the events organised every year wherein students from government and corporation schools were taken around different places of worship as part of communal harmony initiative. This received a good impact among the spiritual heads drawn from different faiths as it promoted peaceful coexistence among people from different faiths and cultures.
