G7 Urges India, Pakistan to De-escalate Tensions, Calls for Peaceful Dialogue

In response to the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan following the deadly April 22 attack in Pahalgam, the Group of Seven (G7) nations has issued a strong appeal for immediate de-escalation and peaceful dialogue between the two countries, reported the Maktoob Media.
In a joint statement released on Saturday, the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, along with the European Union’s High Representative, unequivocally condemned the Pahalgam attack and urged both nuclear-armed neighbors to exercise maximum restraint.
“Further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability. We are deeply concerned for the safety of civilians on both sides,” the statement emphasized.
The G7 called for direct dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad to resolve the situation peacefully, cautioning that continued conflict could destabilize South Asia.
Tensions have sharply increased after the Pahalgam incident, with cross-border hostilities intensifying. According to Indian government sources, at least 22 civilians, including children, have been killed due to Pakistani shelling. Pakistan has not issued any official casualty figures so far.
The international community is increasingly alarmed by the potential for a broader regional crisis and is urging both countries to prioritize diplomacy over confrontation.
